Video game aims to help young cancer patients

A video game called “Re-Mission 2” is designed for young cancer patients to better understand their conditions and how the body benefits from treatments. It was redesigned after the success of "Re-Mission”, which was released in 2006. In the game, there are weapons such as chemotherapy, cancer drugs and cells in the immune system. In 2008, study was carried on for patients at the age of 13 to 29 and according to the study, playing the game improved treatment adherence and understanding of the treatment. Game design teams say visualizing can help patients become involved in their treatments.

Before I encountered this article, video games were all about fighting and something violent and cruel to me. However, it is surprising that video games can actually help cancer patients. I really like this idea because those youngsters must like playing games, and they can learn about their treatments through the game. Chemotherapy must be tough for young cancer patients, but I wish the game can raise their hopes of treating cancers. Hopefully, developers may design not only video games but also music or flash mop in the near future.
