Amanda Bynes arrested, threw bong out window
Amanda Bynes was arrested because of
possessing marijuana, which is illegal. The doorman of her apartment called the
police when he saw her smoking marijuana. She threw water pipe out of the
window when police came to her apartment. Last year, she said that she would
stop acting, and in April, she shaved half of her head. As a child actress, she
had been in the sitcom called “All That” and numerous movies.
I have known
her since the movie ‘Hair Spray’, and I really like her acting. However, it
seems to me that she resembles Macaulay Culkin. This is because they both were
very popular, but somehow their lives are now degenerated. I hope she soon
recovers and gets back to stable condition. It is so sad that once world-famous
stars lose their fames because of possessing illegal possessions or behaving improperly.

A
video game called “Re-Mission 2” is designed for young cancer patients to
better understand their conditions and how the body benefits from treatments.

2006. In the game, there are weapons such as chemotherapy, cancer drugs and
cells in the immune system. In 2008, study was carried on for patients at the
age of 13 to 29 and according to the study, playing the game improved treatment
adherence and understanding of the treatment. Game design teams say visualizing
can help patients become involved in their treatments.
Early action might have prevented SFTS in Korea
On
May 2nd, Korea Centers for Disease Control & Prevention
announced that mites infected with severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome
(SFTS) live in Korea. After 19 days, first casualty was reported. He got bitten
by a bug on August; however, proper prescription was not given to him as the
doctor had not enough knowledge on SFTS. His family requested for examination
on August, but the request was rejected. There is no vaccine for SFTS, so early
action is very important. If the Korea Centers for Disease Control & Prevention
aggressively announced the danger of SFTS, those casualties might have been
prevented.
SFTS
is a hot issue in Korea these days. I totally agree that the Korea Centers for
Disease Control & Prevention should have done a better job whenever I read
an article on casualty. I heard that there were several suspected cases, but
the fact that there was no official explanation seems to me that the ministry
was not responsible. I hope that this SFTS issue raises an importance of early
action and I also hope that someday, vaccines for SFTS are discovered so that
SFTS is no longer exist. This article gave me a chance to think the impact of
virus on humans, how they make us feel fearful, especially when there are no
vaccines for it.

US teenager accused of planning to bomb school

Grant Acord, 17 who planned to attack his school in Oregon, the U.S., will
be charged with attempted murder and possessing a destructive device. Six bombs
were found in his bedroom and he was taken to a juvenile jail Thursday night.
It is also revealed that he had written plans and a specific timeline for the
school attack. County District Attorney John Haroldson said it did not seem
that he was targeting a particular person or group.
It is lucky that police found out
his plan before he actually did it. As he was not targeting a specific person
or group, I think video game may have led him to plan the attack. Thus, maybe
there should be a policy banning young people playing video game or computer
game too much. I think this event shows one of the downside of playing too much
game well. I hope he soon realizes the danger of what he was trying to do, and
regrets for planning the attack.

U.S. study shows Korean diet is good for health
Recent study shows that a Korean diet lowers
cholesterol and reduces the risks of contracting diabetes and cardiac
disorders. Moreover, it is revealed that Hansik, meaning a
Korean diet, is more effective than the USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture)
dietary guidelines for Americans (DGA) in lowering cholesterol levels. The
study was carried out from 2009 to 2012 on 29 non-Asian-American citizens. They
were given a Korean, a USDA-recommended or an ordinary American meal to see a
change in cholesterol levels.
I chose this article because I was looking for ways to lower my cholesterol level as I have high cholesterol level. Actually, I was surprised by this article because it was quite different from what I heard. I heard that Korean foods such as kimchi jjigae, soup made of kimchi, has a high level of sodium, and I thought Hansik may not be healthy. The article does not tell us which type of Hansik was given to people, so I am wondering which food was effective in lowering cholesterol level. Anyways, I will have Hansik more frequently from now on.

Will to change key to migrant policy
Since 1993, Korea invited
foreign workers for labor shortage due to ageing population and low-paid jobs. More
than 790,000 foreigners are working in Korea and they are still suffering from
physical and verbal abuse. Although they can seek for legal justice, it is
difficult for them to prepare lots of documents by themselves. President Lee
explained that the ideas of "pure blood" and homogeneous, and the
misconception that migrant workers commit crimes can lead to aggression toward
migrant workers. Now the government is constantly working on improving migrant
policy.
Since several years ago, I could see lots of
foreigners in Korea and I realized that Korea is also becoming a globalized
society. However, statistics of migrant workers on experiencing abuse was very
shocking to me as the numerical values are quite high. I think the government
should make it easy for migrant workers to access legal justice so that when
they experience verbal or physical abuse, they can be compensated. In addition,
companies should learn that migrant workers should be equally treated.
